The Inner Journey

Now that the last strake has been fastened and the sails have been rigged, it is time to venture outward and make a positive contribution to our corner of the Salish Sea.

Valkyrie’s mission invites all people to share their thoughts and dreams. Our goal is to carry forth the very best of the Viking Culture. We plan to incorporate community building as well as youth and adult educational programming.

Driven by the thrill of exploration, we seek not only to preserve the legacy of the Norse seafarers, but also to inspire new generations to embrace the wonders of the open sea and to understand the value of working together to make a difference.  We also hope that your imagination and sense of adventure will be sparked!

Hollywood’s version of the Vikings was one of war, destruction and plunder. Although true, these traits were common among many cultures of the time. Much of the Viking culture involved developing settlements, bringing forth law (Danelaw), and exploring new lands. Mythologically speaking, the true warrior’s approach is to say “yes” to life, to risk, to take on the journey and do it all with a sense of joy and excitement!

We believe in community engagement. Through outreach programs, workshops, and special events, we strive to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the Viking legacy. We also believe that the focus should be on learning from the land in a spirit of harmony, balance, and trust.

Recognizing that we are more alike than different, and that there is value in those differences, we are invested in honoring one another’s diversity. Valkyrie is the vessel for our work. Together we can make a difference. Because after all…
